In the summer of 2016, I travelled to Moscow to see an exhibition, where a curator from the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art told me: ‘You absolutely have to go to the Moscow Museum of Modern Art. There’s an exhibition of a performance group from Saint Petersburg that even I didn’t know about.’ Curated by Peter Belyi and Lizaveta Matveeva, The Brotherhood of New Blockheads featured a selection of around 100 performances that had taken place between 1996 and 2002. I was so enthusiastic that I brought the exhibition to the Kunsthalle Zürich in 2019. After Moscow, Zurich, and New York, it can now be seen in Berlin for the first time.
